Welcome! This is the first installment of the Intimate U blog. This summer we will celebrate our 7th anniversary of business in Historic Downtown Lexington, VA. As we consider ways to say thank you to all of our wonderful supporters over the last seven years, we can't help but think about The 3/50 Project.
So what is the 3/50 project? Really, it's simple! Think about 3 local independently owned businesses that you would really miss if they no longer existed. Consider spending $50 in at least one of those businesses each month throughout the year, and watch your local economy grow!
Here are some facts: For every $100 spent in locally owned independent stores, $68 returns to the community through taxes, payroll, and other expenditures. If you spend that in a national chain, only $43 stays here. Spend it online, and nothing comes home.
What can you do? Support your town, and buy local! Because guess how many people it takes to start the trend? One.
It starts with you.
